Varied events planned for Veterans Day

Several events, some on Friday and some next Saturday, will mark Veterans Day in Wayne County.

The schedule of activities will culminate in the Veterans Day Parade on Veterans Day (Saturday) beginning at 4 p.m. in downtown Jesup. It will start lining up at 3 p.m. on South West Broad Street in front of Café Euro.

The parade will proceed left on Cherry Street, left on First Street and left on Plum Street.

RE/MAX Elite and the Wayne County Management Agency are co-hosting the parade. There is no entry fee. For parade entry applications or sponsor information, call Charity Whitson of RE/MAX at 559-2142.

Veterans are invited to take part in the parade, either by walking or riding on a float. Interested veterans are asked to call Whitson at the same number.

Kicking off Veterans Day activities Friday will be a program, "Red, White, & Thank You," in Wayne County High School'sBenny Ratliff Arena at 10 a.m. to honor local veterans. The public in general and veterans in particular are invited.

Other school events Friday will include programs at Arthur Williams Middle School at 1:45 p.m. and at Martha Puckett Middle School at 1:55 p.m.

Activities on Veterans Day proper will begin with a service hosted by Jesup VFW Post 4583 at the Wayne County Courthouse.

The American Legion will then conduct a program at the Veterans Memorial at Bill Morris Park at 10 a.m.

At noon the Jesup Elks Lodge will provide lunch for veterans at the Jesup VFW Post, located at 436 Project St. (behind the Farmers Market).

Local Veterans Day events are free and open
